I haven't really talked much about Abigail in school, so I will today. One thing about being a parent is the bragging rights we feel entitled to have. First for those of you who do not have school age children or its been awhile, I tell ya school is just a whole different ball game now. I get a calendar in Abbie's folder ever day that will have a color which lets me know how she did in class. I am required to initial it then send it back to her teacher so she knows that I know what the marking was. She has almost had all greens so far.. she has had two yellows. I am very proud of her. She does have a slight talking problem, and for the life of me can't figure out where she would get that from ;) In her school they already have reading groups. Nowadays I guess they call them literacy labs. Abbie got promoted to the highest reading group in her kindergarten last month, prior to that she was in the second to highest. I get her coming home quizzing me to make sure I know what onomatopoeia means to telling me she needs to work on her fluency when she reads. I was under some crazy impression kindergarten was mostly coloring.. man, was I wrong! For some reason what has shocked me the most of what I have heard out of her little mouth is the process of how American Indians use to hunt deer. Overall she is doing great.
In her backpack, she takes to school one of those little sketch type pads that you write with using the pen with it. Well, I started writing her little notes on it in the morning. My notes include things like "you are a great daughter", "have a good day at school",and "have fun at at girl scouts". Then my little tiger lily likes to erase my message and leave one for me. Which I have to say is one of my favorite things to do is read what she wrote to me. It started out with things like "love you mom" and turning into "you are silly momma" and "you are crazy momma".. haha.. kids. I'm sure as she writes it she giggles.
As a parent, we are our children's biggest cheerleaders. Being a parent is the most challenging and most rewarding thing I have ever been involved with in my life. On that note, I'd like to say congrats to Amy and Ricky, and welcome to the journey :) Amy and Melissa, you two will be joining soon. :) Nothing can completely prepare you for parenthood. Just when you think you have it figured out something changes.
